Smart Solar Power
Smart Solar Power, based in Yucaipa, CA, does business following a rule that has been around for thousands of years, yet, unfortunately seems to have been lost by so many in the business world today: Do unto others as you would want done unto you. They feel that part of having a successful business in the community means having a duty to give back to that community, whenever and however possible.
Over just the last 3 years, Smart Solar Power, with (owner) Don Young and (manager) Mike McCue at the helm, have participated in charitable causes that have given back nearly $100,000 to different non-profits and causes in the Inland Empire. They organized a blood drive to benefit the San Bernardino shooting victims. They’ve raised funds for families in need at the holidays, given time and money to various youth organizations, and been active in numerous civic and service clubs. Here are just a few samples of their projects:
They donated a full solar array to Cpl Justin Crabbe, a Marine wounded in combat, when he received a new home courtesy of Homes For Troops. This allows Justin and his family to live comfortably without the worry of an electric bill. “Having solar on our house has helped us tremendously. I always run warm due to my injuries and need the air conditioning on all the time. Without the solar, our bill would have been very high, so thanks to Smart Solar Power’s donation, we don’t have a bill at all!” -Cpl Justin Crabbe, USMC (ret)
As the Official Solar Company of the Ontario Reign, they have brought an event, The Toys 4 Tots Teddy Bear Toss, to the hockey team, and over the last 3 seasons that event has collected more than 22000 stuffed animals and just over $10,000 to give to the Toys 4 Tots program at Christmas time. “The support given to us by Smart Solar Power every year is huge! The stuffed animals we get from their event brings smiles to thousands of children every Christmas, and those kids need as many smiles as they can get.”- SSGT Johnson, USMC, Director of Toys 4 Tots of Southern California, Inland Region.
Mike McCue and his personal pet project Operation: Glove is a big part of the summer festivities at the Inland Empire 66ers games. You can find Mike and Smart Solar Power there collecting baseball gloves and baseballs to send to our deployed military so as to help them combat homesickness and depression. “Operation: Glove and Smart Solar Power are a part of the 66ers family. 66ers’ fans and employees are proud to support an organization that is truly saving lives”- Ryan English, Asst GM, IE 66ers Baseball
Doing business with a company like Smart Solar Power will not only help them put food on their families’ tables, but helps them help the community as well. Imagine if everyone did business that way!
